14 Oct Becoming a Thought Leader: How to Cut Through The Noise
People who are thought leaders have a strong voice, keen insight and meaningful perspective. But those qualities don’t necessarily happen overnight and because someone is the ‘loudest’.
Great thought-leaders we see in major media outlets or on LinkedIn have a brand coinciding with their voice and a few good attributes to make them successful.
Consistency: Thought leaders don’t have something to say once in a while and then emerge when they feel inspired; rather, they are consistent in their messaging and outreach. They frequently have a take on what is happening in their industry or about their mastered area of interest. They often write, record, or otherwise share their perspective on multiple platforms on a regular basis.
Passion: Think you must be the most qualified or at an expert level to be a thought leader? While thought leaders do have experience in their field, they often have a true passion for what they’re speaking about which enables them to have a unique view of things and an overall interesting perspective. Be enthusiastic first and explore your field of the subject which will better position you as a thought leader.
Originality: A good thought leader has a strong stance, or opinion, about news happening in their area of passion. They don’t repeat what other people are saying or what they’ve read; instead, they feel strongly and formulate their own opinions on subjects. This might even include an unpopular opinion or one that goes against the grain, and that’s okay.
Flexibility: Thought leaders that can take other subjects, news, or happenings and apply them to their field show greater flexibility and often results in a more unique voice and greater opportunities. Being able to speak about a subject that you may not be an expert in, but yet, you’re applying your viewpoint from the area of which you’re passionate will result in wider platforms and greater audiences.
