30 Sep Time for Another Social Media Run Down!
By: Jess Stein, Social Media & Account Executive
Guess what? It’s Thursday! Did you miss me?
Time for your social scoop of the week!
PR profs, have you seen the Instagram storm that’s been brewing this week? Yikes. Instagram has been getting into some drama lately due to files leaked showing that they are very aware of the harm their social platform has on teens—specifically teen girls. This falls amidst the development of their new Instagram app exclusively for kids and tweens. Not the best timing, huh? Instagram has since paused any efforts towards this new app, which if our courses on crisis communication have taught us anything, this is a good move. We’re curious to see how this platform will improve now that the world has some insight into their reports.
One thing the app is continuing to work on is advancing the “close friends” feature. They will soon allow you to add, remove and edit your story list, so the only people who can watch your stories are the people you want to! So, excuse us while we add our crush and only our crush to our story list. Also, does anyone else have “No New Friends” playing in their head right now?
Pinterest is upping its game after losing a chunk of users during the pandemic. And honestly, this plan may work because I’m a FAN. They have recently announced that they will be partnering with Albertsons, a grocery store giant, for in-app shopping. Next time you go to your “Recipes I Want to Try but Will Never Get Around To” board, you will see a list of the items you need to make that chicken tortilla soup that you have been too lazy to make. Pinterest, great work. This is a step in the right direction and a nice kick in the butt!
Also, someone go to Party City and grab the number balloons. TikTok has hit 1 billion active users! Can you see our shocked faces? Yeah, no. We’re not surprised.
And for trending news. Dog the Bounty Hunter. That is all.
