Tropical Storm Harvey Coverage: Southeastern CU Foundation, GTE Financial Donate Funds
BIRMINGHAM, Ala./TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—The Southeastern Credit Union Foundation is donating $10,000 to support victims of Hurricane Harvey, while GTE Financial is offering to match member donations.
SCUF reported that it has committed $5,000 to CUAid, which goes to affected CU employees, and another $5,000 to American Red Cross.
“We are proud to be an organization that operates under the philosophy of People Helping People and encourage all credit unions that can contribute to this cause to do so,” SCUF stated. “We would also like to recognize the Southeastern Credit Union Management Association and the many credit unions and chapters around Alabama and Florida who have already pledged to support people of Texas and Louisiana.”
Separately, Tampa-based GTE Financial said it is making it easy or their credit union members to donate to the relief efforts, and the GTE Foundation will match donations up to $10,000. More than 900 GTE members currently live in the Texas region, the credit union said.
