LifeHack: RoadMapping Your PR Efforts

A Walk Through The Process We Use To Create Our Services

When working in an organization (whether it be a business or nonprofit), we all wish we could have a marketing engine that fires away each and every month, PR communications that are proactive and positive as well as engaging and that we had these two areas working together seamlessly.

Well, we have good news for you. Here’s a simple hack to make your PR, marketing and communications not just flow, but work for you ahead of time, planned out accordingly, taking advantage of opportunities and getting the results you’re looking for.

Grab your pen and paper and get started with an Annual Road Map.

Simply write down on the left-hand side of the page all the months in the year leaving room for ideas.

Then start with the closest month to where you’re starting (or if you’re starting in the New Year, begin with January).

Are there National observances happening this month? Are there important events happening in your organization this month? Perhaps your business is launching a new service, product, or community effort? List a bunch of your findings – you don’t have to stick to one.

Now, some of the things you find might be ‘National Ice Cream Day’ or ‘Cuddle Someone Day’ and those can be utilized as fun social media posts giving your organization some personality; or you could take these fun observances and turn them into something more meaningful and newsworthy. For example, your organization might want to devote hours to a local animal shelter and cuddle pets needing forever homes. Then you can let the news know about this, snap some photos for social and really see the benefit as this can affect all areas of your business.

Or if your organization is promoting an important launch, you can now figure out ahead of time your efforts leading up to the launch and plan when you will want to initiate your social media plan, hashtags, press release, events and more.

Next, take a look at your organization and reflect on certain dates, milestones, and important events happening and jot them down according to the appropriate month in which they happen for the remainder of the year.

Watch how quickly your annual road map develops and provides you with a plan for your communications.
