Understanding the Technology in PR Can Lead to Freebies

Just about everyone loves freebies – you know, the things that come free, sometimes unexpected, and usually desirable. That’s the same awesome feeling you can get by understanding some of the latest technology trends in PR, and here’s how.

So imagine the occasional free boost in business, media mentions, infographic about your business or even a new lead…yes, that’s right, these are just some of the freebies that can come along with understanding a few key pieces of PR technology.

Social media is a given. Sure, social media is a must if you’re looking to maximize your public relations efforts. But did you know there are some free tools to help you manage it even better? Check out Hootsuite, for example, as a way to better manage scheduling posts in advance and across multiple platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) all with the ease of one single log-in. There are plenty of these platforms to try in addition to Hootsuite, such as Sprout Social, Buffer, Social Oomph, Tweet Deck, Social Flow and more. See which one works best for you and run with it!

Email broadcast like a pro. Many businesses have asked us ways to get their message out to their client list with efficiency and efficacy. That’s where email broadcast systems come into play. Email broadcast is just a fancy way of saying email newsletter, e-newsletter or eblast. At nspr, our favorite is MailChimp and that’s because they also have a free version (and well, we just love them). Businesses can really utilize getting their message designed with their branding and core messaging in mind. Again, there are many different free tools out there (just Google) and have fun. Come up with your content and match the design elements to your brand and start scheduling your eblasts on a regular basis.

Video editing that you can do! Sure you might not have the latest camera equipment, lighting, microphones or version of a video editor, but we’ve got some helpful hints to make your own videos with ease – for free with Windows Movie Maker, Virtual Dub, or even just straight-up YouTube. The point is to just set your camera somewhere steady, shoot, upload and edit. Getting good video content takes a bit of editing, so you’ll want to master this technology. Once you do you’ll be working to get your message out in one of the most popular and well-received platforms your audience can understand. People love video and usually 30-60 seconds is key for maximum audience engagement.

Bring out the graphic designer in you. Maybe you don’t have the budget for a graphic designer, or your department is working on a project and you need to get something designed quickly. No problem! There are many free graphic design tools available that won’t require you to master an Adobe Photoshop college level course. Try Canva, for example, as a free way to come up with designs to your liking. You can upload your own images, add frames, illustrations, pick custom colors and more. Best of all, it’s free (there are paid elements but you can get by without them, if desired).

Word to the wise: don’t be intimidated by these tools. Once you dive in you’ll get the hang of it; we assure you! The key is to get in, practice and have fun. Mastering these tools can really help boost your business and hey, it’s free!

But, if you do need a bit of support, nspr is here to help. Feel free to contact us at www.nspublicrelations.com.
