Making your phones ring more – try these simple steps

Many people come to us with one goal; to get more business. They understand that there’s something that can be done but they aren’t exactly sure where to start. A good way for many people to gauge success is seeing their phones ring more with new customers or clients.

So, if you fall into this common category and want your phones to ring more, have no fear. Here are three simple steps to help you accomplish this.

Media, media, media. No, we’re not just saying this three times for fun. When our clients are in the news for doing something significant, 99.9% of them tell us their phones ring more. In fact, one client recently told us that is how they gauge their overall success and can actually time the correlation from a news interview to when their phones ring more.

So, how do you accomplish this? Take a look at what is currently going on or important in your business. What about that is newsworthy? Just the fact that your business is having a sale isn’t going to make the 5 p.m. news and therefore your phones ring. Think about what you see making the news, what benefits the community, or a special story or group of people you’re helping, for example.

Speak the language of your audience. Many people turn to running a sale, or even giving something away for free in order to help make their phones ring. What people find is these drastic sales also cut profit margins, affect the staff, and can still result in phones not ringing nearly enough. This equation can be quite frustrating. The missing element here is being able to speak the language of your audience.

A sale might not even be of interest to your clientele. Or if it is, why is it important to them? Will it help save money so they have an easier time paying utilities, mortgage, and maybe even their child’s college savings fund? Get to know the why. If it isn’t a sale, how will your product or service help them, specifically? Sell the solution to the problem, not your product, by speaking the language of your audience and truly understanding their needs.

Communicate and don’t leave any stone unturned. What this means is combining the most popular social media platforms with your website, blog, content creation, marketing materials, graphic design, video, live streaming and more to have an impact on your communication. Because there are so many ways for audiences to receive your message, you don’t want to fall into the trap of thinking you can simply put something on one social media site only, or your website only. Make sure all pieces mentioned above match your message and that you’re communicating effectively. Once you do this, you’ll be seeing an impact that leads to your phones ringing more.
